I have numerous translations of the Bible. Never have I read a translation that I sense such a powerful anointing of God as I read. I have read and studied God’s word for the past 42 years, and I find nothing in TPT that contradicts or opposes other translations such as KJV, NKJV, NLT, NIV, or others. This translation makes difficult passages clearer and easier to understand. It has been a tremendous blessing to me to have it. I am looking forward purchIDg the remaining books as they are completed.

This translation of the Bible has breathed new life into me! It’s like reading a love letter from God! I’ve gotten so much out of it I’ve bought the complete set currently available for other people to enjoy. It provides a fresh understanding of what the original Hebrew and Greek texts mean, and brings the scriptures down to where I live. I intend to buy every book of the Bible in this series as it is released. Awesome, wonderful translation!

I haven’t read all of them yet. But the passages I have read bring the Word of God to life in a new and fresh way. I love the study helps and historical information that is mentioned regarding his choice of how he interpreted the words he translated.

Night Light: A Devotional for Couples Hardcover – April 1, 2007
Author: Visit ‘s James C. Dobson Page ID: 1414317492

.com Review

Rising divorce rates inspired Dr. James Dobson, founder and president of Focus on the Family, and his wife, Shirley, to author a devotional for couples in an attempt to strengthen the marriages of younger generations. Night Light: A Devotional for Couples contains six months of daily devotions stemming from the Dobsons’ 40 years of marriage experience. Beginning on Sunday, an inspirational story addresses a relevant theme, such as communication, money, forgiveness, or conflict resolution, which is expounded upon throughout the devotions for that week. Scripture, probing questions, and short anecdotes encourage intimacy between the couple in an attempt to ward off stagnation and habitual laziness in spiritual growth. While the questions and suggestions will affect every couple differently, this devotional stimulates conversation about weighty issues of the heart and turns the head toward what matters for eternity. Knowing that most couples are too exhausted by the end of the day to analyze every facet of their marriage, however, the Dobson’s have crafted the devotions to be completed within 10 minutes. One would expect this to be most helpful for newlyweds, but it is a revitalizing aide for those who have had poor communication throughout their marriage or are looking to refocus their marriage on Christ. Night Light is a wonderful way to set your mind on the Lord before turning out the light and for drawing closer to your mate in the process. –Jill Heatherly –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Sometimes I wonder if I read the same books that others rate as five stars. I personally think that five stars are too frequently given, particularly when we consider that the vast majority of books are simply average.
I was hopeful that "Night Light" would be above run-of-the-mill, but it really isn’t. It’s a fair book, but nothing else. (And please note that I am not a "Focus on the Family" basher. I think that ministry has helped bring many important topics to the fore. As a born-again Christian, I take seriously all the issues raised by that ministry and this book.)
Billed as being a unique daily devotional for Christian couples, it covers six months with each day comprised of a Bible verse, the Dobsons’ thoughts about the verse as it relates to married couples’ lives, a few questions to share together, and a closing prayer. Pretty standard fare for a devotional.
We’ve found the book to be written for couples that have extremely traditional marriage roles, but a growing number of couples (who are, by all means, traditional evangelical Christians) do not fit that mold. Generalizations about what the sexes are like in this book, unfortunately, are sadly stereotypical, too. Here, the Dobsons come across as stuck in another era. Now I am all for conserving the things that are great about America, Christianity, and family, but the authors seem to be writing more for their contemporaries, couples that have paralleled their own marriage experience. In short, if you don’t match the Dobsons point for point in your marriage situation, the differences become glaring, becoming a focal point for incomplete application of their ideas.
Frankly, we’ve had quibbles with some of the theology, too.

The Family Book – October 1, 2003

The Family Book Hardcover – October 1, 2003
Author: Visit ‘s Todd Parr Page ID: 0316738964

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2-As he did in The Mommy Book and The Daddy Book (both Little, Brown, 2002), Parr introduces children to an array of families. Whimsical illustrations featuring neon colors and figures outlined in black show big ones and small ones, and families that look alike and relatives who look just like their pets. The art features both human and animal figures; thus, pigs depict both a family that likes to be clean, and one that likes to be messy. Some families include stepmoms, stepdads, stepsisters, or stepbrothers; some adopt children. Other families have two moms or two dads, while some children have only one parent. Interspersed with the differences among families are the ways they are alike: all like to hug each other, are sad when they lose someone they love, enjoy celebrating special days together, and can help each other to be strong. This concept book celebrating the diversity of family groups is distinguished by its sense of fun.

This book was a gift to my daughter and I from my stepsister, as much as a testament to her acceptance of me as her sister, as her acceptance of my daughter, who was adopted, as her niece. She couldn’t have given us a better gift.

But I have to be completely honest and say that, had I come across this book in the store, I would not have bought it. In fact the first time I read it to my daughter, I wanted to skim past the "some families have two moms or two dads" page.

I know my saying that might be hurtful for some, and I am truly, truly sorry.

Well, I didn’t skim past that page. I read it to my daughter. Again, and again, and again because guess what: this is her favorite book. And though she’s 18 mos old, she understands what is going on. She loves to wipe her hand across the "Some families like to be clean" page and she turns to hug me on the "All families like to hug" page. She places her finger to her mouth to shush when I say, "Some families like to be quiet." I didn’t teach her to do these things as we read along; this book just really engages her. Some day she’ll look at me quizzically and ask how it is that some people have two moms or two dads, and I’m going to tell her why: they just do. Like the other reviewer, I will admit that I had no intention of introducing my daughter to homosexuality at such a young age. Because, I was thinking about the sexuality part, not the love part. And the more I read this book to to her over and over and over, I am learning that when she has friends who have same gender parents, that is what I want her to focus on, the love part, because that’s what she thinks about when she sees her own mommy and daddy, nothing else. We became a family without any of that.
